Roman de la rose, (French: "Romance of the Rose") one of the most popular French poems of the later Middle Ages. Modeled on Ovid's Ars amatoria ( c. 1 bc; Art of Love ), the poem is composed of more than 21,000 lines of octosyllabic couplets and survives in more than 300 manuscripts.
