Book Review The Queen's Poisoner By Jeff Wheeler FazilaReads

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Jeff Wheeler took an early retirement from his career at Intel in 2014 to write full-time. He is, most importantly, a husband and father, and a devout member of his church. He is occasionally spotted roaming among the oak trees and granite boulders in the hills of California or in any number of the state's majestic redwood groves.

A Review Of The Queen's Poisoner Read more on

The Queen's Poisoner tells the story of Owen, an eight-year-old who is thrust into the care of a king, and embroiled in politics at a terribly young age. Poor lamb. It is a classically written book, but it certainly stands up today, and the way Jeff transports us into the head of an eight-year-old is brilliant..

The story was pretty nice too, with espionage, cunning plans, and the Queen's Poisoner (not someone who poisoned a queen, by the way) is a mastermind. But the characters are what really made this story great. The author had a way of taking hatable characters and building them up to be loveable in a subtle, natural way. The Mortimer girl was.

The Queen's Poisoner, by Jeff Wheeler, is book 1 in his new The Kingfountain Series. And truth be told, it was very different than what I expected, but not in a bad way. I'm a fan of Jeff Wheeler and have enjoyed his 3 trilogies in the Muirwood and Mirrowen worlds, and came into this book expecting The Queen's Poisoner to be much of the same.

Pin by Sam Miller on Books I REALLY want Fantasy books, The kingkiller chronicles, Ya fantasy

The Queen's Poisoner is devoid of the graphic violence, sex and language that so easily turn me away from many other fantasy books. But while doing so, it doesn't compromise in the storytelling that I enjoy. I would give it a PG rating as a movie since it does feature death, some intense situations, threats made, thematic undertones, etc..

It's a new world, a new magic system, and the characters-I've just fallen in love with them. In this series, the main protagonist starts as a young boy in book 1 then becomes a teenager in book 2 and an adult in book 3. I've never skipped so much history between books before, never written such a young hero before, but it really works.

The world was interesting and unique, with its unusual water-obsessed religion and the subtle magic that's just barely outside of "natural", making it much more believable than most fantasies.
